The Potomac Valley Architecture Foundation Scholarship Fund was started in 1995, originally funded by an unencumbered bequest left by the estate of former member Bernard M. Frishman, AIA. Today, support for the Scholarship Fund comes from three sources:
- our annual AIAPV/PVAF Golf Outing, presented by Ernest Maier, Inc.;
- the AIA Component Grant program; and
- donations from AIAPV chapter members and others interested in building the future of the architecture profession by helping deserving students complete their education.
At first, the Scholarship Fund awarded two $1,200 scholarships to students at the University of Maryland each year. In 2007, the program expanded through funding from AIA and the American Architectural Foundation to award an additional four $1,000 scholarships, and in 2008, we named our two $1,200 scholarships in honor of the late Bernard M. Frishman, AIA and the late Andrew R. Winters, AIA.
Through the growth of the Golf Outing since 2013 and the increasing support of donors like you, the Scholarship Fund has continued to expand. We have increased the amount of our two named scholarships to $1,500 and award them to students in the masters program at the University of Maryland. In addition, we provide two $1,000 scholarships to University of Maryland undergraduate architecture students, and contribute $1,000 each year to Montgomery College Architectural Technologies Scholarship program, which contributes to scholarships of varying level that help Montgomery College graduates pursue four-year architecture degrees.
Your donations will help us continue and strengthen our support of the next generations of architects!
