Green Roof Design Concepts

Course Description

This presentation reviews the design aspects pertaining to a green roof, including benefits of green design, combining plants and PV panels, safety, weight and slope considerations, specifications, types of systems, plant selection, irrigation and long-term maintenance of the green roof.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand the function & benefits of a green roof, including technical information of roof loading, slope containment, types of green roofs, maintenance, etc.    
  2. Be able to properly design a green roof; including all the factors that are involved with a green roof.       
  3. Be able to understand total cost of green roof systems based on the type of green roof designed.      
  4. Combine the first three elements to properly specify the green roof so that all parties including the General Contractor, roofer, installer, maintenance and logistics can perform their specified tasks by having all needed information documented and easy to comprehend.
