Bruce Zavos, President, ZA+DZavos Architecture+Design (ZA+D), a community-driven design firm based in Frederick, Maryland, celebrates its 15th Year Anniversary this month. Since its inception in 2003, ZA+D has strived to “Redefine the Building Potential” by producing innovative and emotive designs throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

The firm specializes in multifamily housing and serves non-profit and community agencies. To Bruce Zavos, President of Zavos Architecture+ Design, architecture is more than simply design: “Our mission is to provide physical environments that enhance and encourage community.  While return on investment is important for our clients we never forget that return on Community is equally important in the decisions that we make.” This approach has garnered ZA+D numerous awards and recognitions including the City of Frederick’s Historic Preservation Award, two ABC Cumberland Valley Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards, and three acknowledgements from the Passive Housing Institute of the United States.

During the last 15 years, Zavos Architecture + Design has developed a reputation of providing excellent service, outstanding and sustainable designs, and a desire to improve communities. In Frederick County, ZA+D has designed the Frederick County Public Schools Central Office Building, Hood College’s Athletic Center, the HOPE VI projects, 520 North Market and Sinclair Way and the Bernard Brown Community Center.

The firm was founded in 2003 by Bruce Zavos, AIA, an architect with over 38 years of experience practicing in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. Before establishing Zavos Architecture and Design, Zavos founded and served as Principal of Wiencek+Zavos Architects for 18 years.

Since its inception, ZA+D has grown and now employs a staff of 10. We look forward to remaining an important resource for lower income families and all Maryland communities for many years to come.
