Our Mission

2015 Annual Report CoverAIA Potomac Valley (AIAPV), a local chapter of the American Institute of Architects founded in 1955, is based in College Park, Maryland. The Chapter’s territory includes Charles, Prince George’s, Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Garrett, and Allegany Counties.

Our mission is making a better environment through leadership in architecture. We:

  • empower members to advance their roles in service to society;

  • act as a collective voice to help cultivate the future of the architectural profession;

  • foster innovation & sustainability in design; and

  • are a knowledge resource to members and the public, raising awareness of the value of the architecture profession.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is the largest and most influential professional association for architects, interns, and those directly involved with the practice of architecture in the world. Based in Washington, DC. the AIA has almost 300 state and local chapters representing over 88,000 members, including a majority of registered architects in the United States.
