First Tuesday Lunch & Learns - Live Webinars with Grimm + Parker

 Directions

Live Webinar with Grimm + Parker

AIAPV has partnered with Grimm + Parker Architects to offer live webinars of the firm's Lunch & Learn CEU events on the first Tuesday of each month. The number of webinar seats is limited to 12 per event, but could be expanded if there is sufficient demand. AIA credits will be reported by the presenting vendors. This is a member benefit open to AIAPV chapter members initially. Should seats become available, tickets will be available to non-AIAPV chapter members three (3) days prior to the webinar. Registration through AIAPV is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Registrants will receive the WebEx log in credentials the day before the webinar.

AIAPV appreciates Grimm + Parker's support in enabling the chapter to provide this valuable benefit for the convenience of members unable to get to our educational events in person.

First Tuesday Lunch & Learn

Attaching Claddings over Continuous Insulation

Course Description

The course describes the origins and reasons for the increasing use of continuous insulation in commercial exterior walls. Included is the air barrier, moisture barrier, and thermal insulation aspects of the wall system. This understanding is then combined with the design objectives of rain screen wall systems to outline the design issues that must be addressed in rain screen wall systems with continuous insulation. Several methods which can solve these design issues are presented. Attendees will understand how to design more energy efficient and robust rain screen wall assemblies.

1 AIA LU/HSW, 1 USGBC credit

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to understand:

  • How temperature profile design in wall assemblies in combination with water vapor permeance design can result in a far more robust wall system which can better resist condensation problems and have increased drying potential.

  • The magnitude of air infiltration energy losses and methods to reduce those looses.

  • The design issues surrounding rain screen wall assemblies, especially the veneer attachment methods as relating to maintaining the thermal performance of the wall system.

  • Various code and other requirements which a continuously insulated rain screen wall assembly must meet.

Presenter: Michael Palmer, Building Envelope Specialist – Dow Building Solutions
Provider: Dow Building Solutions, Provider #J421, Course #ATTVEN
