Ever conducted a blower door test or even seen a blower door?  What about a thermal imaging camera, or a two pin moisture meter?  Come and join us for a unique chance to witness a building science and energy assessment of LEAFHouse, the 2007 Solar Decathlon award-winner, designed and built by the University of Maryland to cutting-edge standards with state-of-the-art-equipment for the time.  How is it performing now?  How does it compare to those original standards?  What might the designers have done differently if building today?

This two-hour event will be led by two of the country's most knowledgable "building science nerds." Peter Yost is Vice President for Building Performance at Building Green, publisher of Environmental Building News.  He is also Technical Director for Green Building Advisor.  Peter has been right in the middle of the evolution of high performance homes for more than 25 years. Doug Horgan is a nationally recognized remodeling speaker, author and consummate learner.  He was the first person in the Washington area to achieve the NAHB's Certified Green Professional designation, and is Vice President of Best Practices at BOWA builders, one of the DC area's premier construction companies.

Peter and Doug will demonstrate the elements of building performance assessment, using the unusual features of LEAFHouse, home to the AIA Potomac Valley Chapter and the Potomac Valley Architecture Foundation, and part of a planned Sustainability Park and Academic Research Center (SPARC).  Following an exhaustive checklist, we will assess the building, find out what is right, what is wrong, and how best to address any problems. This demonstration is sponsored by TW Perry in conjunction with its 2018 Building Science Class.
